Falling Leaves

As the temperature begins it's slow decline and leaves turn colour and fall to the ground, we know winter is just around the corner. Before we give into the tough love of winter, we still have a number of weeks to explore the natural beauty of Miramichi and its surroundings.

Miramichi is home to a vast number of hiking and biking trails, winding their ways through the wooded areas, more often than not, right in our own backyards. One of the many perks of working with Miramichi Landings is that I get to promote such trails almost everyday. Two of the more popular trail destinations in Miramichi happen to lie within Miramichi Landings sites: French Fort Cove and Morrison Cove.

Now, most people flock to French Fort Cove year-round to walk, hike, bike, and snowshoe its trails, but I'd like to draw your attention to another great spot which is that of Morrison Cove. Although it's trails aren't as groomed as those of French Fort Cove, they still make for an excellent hike.

Nearly a decade ago, myself and a group of friends hiked back to the old Chatham reservoir site at Morrison Cove and camped near the edge of the lake. I remember just being awestruck at the sight of this area. It was so peaceful, and to date, it is the nicest spot I've visited... anywhere!

So, I encourage you all to explore the wealth of nature activities Miramichi has to offer. Whether it's hiking, biking, snowshoeing, geocaching, whatever, get out there and explore! It's well worth the effort, and it's FREE!

On a similar note, The Miramichi Youth House is hosting their annual haunted trails walk at French Fort Cove from 7-9pm this Friday and Saturday. Admission is $5/person or $20/family of five and proceeds go to this great local cause. Parking is available at the Cove Road entrance to French Fort Cove.
