The winner of the 2011 Miramichi Landings Award was Benson Doak from Harkins Elementary, whose projected focused on Vye's Beach, Canadian Point and Beaubears Island.
Additionally, the Friends of Beaubears Island presented their own award to Jayme MacMillan, Abbigail Larsen, and Shelby Morris of Harkins Elementary for their project focusing on Miramichi Landings as a whole.
Miramichi Landings Award
"In Recognition of Miramichi Landings as a Tourism Icon"
One award for District 16 Heritage Fair. Individual or group projects are eligible.
Regional Heritage Committee will coordinate this award.
- May be awarded to an individual or group project;
- Student(s) may only receive the award once during his/her participation in heritage fairs;
- In the same fair, the award recipient(s) may also be selected as a delegate to the Provincial Showcase, but may not be selected as another award/medal recipient.
- The project must have a theme related to one of the 11 Miramichi Landings locations and/or tell the story, generally, of Miramichi Landings;
- The project best exemplifies a Miramichi Landings location and/or shows how Miramichi Landings will play a major role in tourism on the Miramichi;
- The student shows a high level of enthusiasm for learning about Miramichi Landings;
- The student shows a high level of determination and dedication to research the topic.
- A commemorative plaque;
- And, a letter of congratulations from the Chairperson of the Miramichi Open River Museum Board of Directors.
